Huntington Rapids

30” x 40” Oil on Canvas

Many of my paintings are taken from photos I took while walking our Cane Corso, Jackson, through the Metroparks in Bay Village, Ohio, where I live. Huntington Rapids was a favorite spot – Jackson loved watching the fish leap over the rapids, and we would often meander downstream. The biggest challenge in this painting was capturing the movement of the water as it spilled over the rocks. I love the way the light trickles through the spring foliage . . . once the trees are in full leaf, the lighting changes dramatically.

Sadly, the triple trunk tree featured in the foreground has fallen over and blocked the waterfall; this painting captures a moment in time that is no more.
