Ana’s Forest

36” x 60” Oil on Canvas

The snow did not even whisper its way to earth, but seemed to salt the night with silence.

My Barry and I had always been early risers with the belief that no one has a right to your time at 4:30 am; that time was our own. I awakened one morning to a blanket of white and Huntington Woods was waiting. I was the first into the forest - no other footprints anywhere. I felt like an adventurer who was the first to discover a new world - clean and bright and fresh. The silence was so complete - the sense of aloneness so peaceful. The stream, not yet frozen, stretched back into the cold.

Despite the dominance of black and white in this painting, it has a good deal of color - lots of green, blue and blush.

Dr. Ana, Barry’s oncologist at M.D. Anderson in sunny Houston, and her family treasured their ski trip getaways and she used to tell us of their snow-ventures. She is memorialized here in Ana’s Forest.
